Mary Gene Gammon Walker passed away on Thursday, Sept. 12, 2019.

She was pre-deceased in death by her husband, Raymond Elmer Walker; and son, Charles Raymond Walker; also by her mother, Lexie Clinkscales Gammon; father, George Lee Gammon and wife, Mary Gammon; brother, George Thomas Gammon.

Surviving are her brother, Richard (Pat) Gammon; daughter-in-law, Dianne Hopkins Walker; two grandsons, Mark (Jenna) Walker and their son, Grayson, Matthew Walker; and many nieces and nephews.

Mary Gene was born in Birmingham, Alabama. She was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church, graduated from Woodlawn High School and Birmingham Southern College. She received her master's degree from the University of South Alabama, Mobile.

Also, was a longtime resident of Orange Beach, moving there in the 1950s upon marrying Raymond.

She retired from the Baldwin County School System where she taught second grade and was member of Alpha Gamma Chapter of DKG (Educators Leadership Organization).

Besides teaching in public schools, her life was devoted to teaching others about her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. After bringing many to a saving knowledge of Christ, she mentored them to the point that many called her their second mother. She exemplified what love is to everyone in her life and was loved in return.

Special thanks go to Community Hospice, especially Noel and Debbie; Mary Gene Walker's Bible Study Group who took turns sitting with her during the day and Janet Lowery who ministered to her at night. Also thanks go to all those who brought food and covered her in prayer during her illness and Mary Nell Hough, her devoted niece.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2019 from noon to 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Gulf Shores, with a memorial service to follow.

A private graveside service will be held at Pine Rest Memorial Park.
