MONTGOMERY – Masks will continue to be required in public places until at least 5 p.m. Nov. 8, following the extension of the Alabama Safer at Home Order on Wednesday, Sept. 30.

Gov. Kay Ivey on Wednesday issued an 18th supplemental emergency proclamation containing an amended Safer at Home Order that includes a statewide mask requirement. The new order extended previous guidelines intended to slow the spread of COVID-19.

The new extension will continue the mask requirements until after the Nov. 3 elections.

Individuals will be required to wear a mask or other facial covering when in public and in close contact with other people, as described in the order.

The order requires everyone older than 6 to wear a mask covering his or her nose and mouth when in public within six feet of someone from another household. The order includes some provisions such as when people are eating or drinking in restaurants and bars or if a person has a medical exemption.
