FOLEY - When you think of taking a night on the town to watch a national Broadway tour in our area, most people would think of driving to Mobile or Pensacola.

Not anymore, as a national Broadway touring musical came to town for the first time, making Foley, Alabama its opening stop.

Menopause The Musical played to sold-out crowds during its one-week run, from Jan. 21 - 26 on the Legends in Concert at OWA’s stage.

“We opened here six months ago, and one of the commitments I made when we opened this building was that we were going to bring in unique and interesting and diversified products at different times of the year depending on the demographic that was in town,” said Chief Operating Officer at On Stage Enterprises Brian Brigner.

Menopause The Musical was chosen to be the first musical to hit the OWA Legends’ stage, and brought four talented actresses to our area. The show starred Anise Ritchie as Professional Woman, Rebecca Fisher as Soap Star, Megan Cavanagh as Earth Mother, and Terri Dixon as Iowa Housewife. Dixon now lives in Florida, and though she stated she’d heard of South Baldwin this was her first time ever to visit.

“I’ve heard of this area, but I’ve never travelled here before,” she said. “But I can already tell that in about 10 to 15 years it’s going to be a mini Las Vegas!”

Menopause the Musical is the longest running scripted musical in Las Vegas history. Since opening, nearly 15 million people across the world have attended to watch four diverse women celebrate life through laughter and sisterhood. The show features parodies of classic songs from the 60s, 70s, and 80s.

The show is produced by GFour Productions, a company Brigner has worked with in the past and plans to work with in the future to bring more shows and musicals to Foley. He stated as soon as tickets went on sale, the response from both snowbirds and locals was very enthusiastic and supportive.

“First we brought Vegas to the Gulf Coast, and now we’re bringing Broadway,” said Alvita Russell, sales and marketing manager at Legends in Concert. “You can find it all right here in Foley.”

Legends begins a new lineup of tribute artists on Feb. 7, with Michael Jackson, Elvis, and Tina Turner taking the stage. For more information, check out www.legendsinconcert.com/owa.
