New adult fitness center in Orange Beach one step closer

Posted

Orange Beach city council approved a low bid and selected Stuart Construction LLC to construct the new Adult Fitness Center on the Orange Beach Recreation Center Campus.

Work is expected to begin in early May on the 24/7 adult only fitness center. The design by Davis Architects, Inc. and McCollough Architecture calls for a 17,400 square-foot gym. Construction is expected to take 12 months at a cost not-to-exceed cost of $2,968,082.

Mayor Tony Kennon, City Administrator Ken Grimes Jr., and the City Council members have worked with the engineers and architect to design a beautiful building, inside and out, for the citizens of Orange Beach.

The new building will free up much-needed space in the Rec Center for the Expect Excellence program and Camp Sunshine.

When complete the adult gym will include a main open-space weight/cardio room (10,700 square feet of space), two group fitness rooms with a breakout wall (3,400 square feet total), and large locker rooms with saunas, showers and restrooms. A virtual tour is available on the City of Orange Beach’s YouTube channel.
