FOLEY - OWA had a big surprise at its 3rd Annual Christmas Tree Lighting event on Saturday, Nov. 16, when Paula Deen arrived to partake in the festivities. Paula Deen’s Family Kitchen has been in construction on the property for nearly two years, and during the celebration the official Grand Opening date was announced to be Monday, Dec. 16.
“This is my first time here at OWA; this is my first time here in Foley!” Deen said. “So far all I’ve been seeing is pictures of the progress of the restaurant, so it’s a real thrill to come here and actually see it. It’s really happening!”
Deen and her husband Michael joined OWA General Manager Steve Honeycutt on stage to kick-off the holidays at the destination. Prior to the tree lighting, elves patrolled the grounds and live Christmas music played, while Santa and Mrs. Claus read “The Night Before Christmas.” Following the lighting, a firework show took place over the water, and snow fell from the rooftops.
Deen said this was only her first of many visits to the area, stating she will be back again next month. Paula Deen’s Family Kitchen will offer a unique family-style setting featuring many classic Deen family recipes. Families will be served endless portions of Southern-Style entrees and side-dishes, and meals will end with visitors choosing a dessert.
“I hope you have the happiest of holidays,” said Deen. “I hope y’all have a blessed Thanksgiving and Christmas, I hope you’re consumed with peace and contentment and good health, and I always send you my love, and of course, best dishes.”
