Pedestrian identified in fatal Thanksgiving Day hit-and-run

ROBERTSDALE, Alabama — Alabama State Troopers continue to look for a suspect who fled the scene after striking and killing a pedestrian on Thanksgiving Day.

The victim, now identified as Andrew Lamar Butler of Mobile, was struck by a vehicle at around 1:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 28 on eastbound I-10 near the Baldwin Beach Express (exit 49), according to a release issued by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency. Troopers believe at least one vehicle left the scene of the crash.

Butler was believed to have been involved in a previous crash and was struck after exiting the vehicle.

Anyone with information concerning he crash is urged to contact troopers at 251-660-2300.

The second fatal crash in Baldwin County on Thanksgiving day occurred shortly before 6 p.m. on southbound I-65 north of Bay Minette (mile marker 41) and involved three vehicles.

Marlin Stamps, 19, of Bay Minette, was traveling south in a 2017 Ford Fusion when his vehicle struck a 2016 Hyundai Accent from behind. Both the driver, identified as 87-year-old Duggar Weaver of McIntosh, and the passenger, identified as Barbary Terry, 80, of Mulga, were pronounced dead at the scene. Neither was wearing a seat belt, according to a release issued Thursday by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

A 2006 Toyota Sienna, driven by Barbara Ryan, 80, of Gulf Shores, was also involved in the chain-reaction crash. Stamps and Ryan were not injured, however, a juvenile passenger in Stamps’ vehicle was transported to University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

No charges have been filed in either incident.
