Plans approved for new pylon OWA sign along Hwy 59

FOLEY - Gloria Boatwright with Foley Holdings LLC attended the May 15 Foley council meeting to discuss the plans for a proposed pylon sign that is being prepared for the city. The sign will be to grab drivers’ attention and to help direct them to OWA, the Foley Event Center, and the Sports Tourism Complex.

“This will be at the median that is at Hwy 59,” Boatwright said. “It is between Southern Chevrolet and where the Ryan’s Steakhouse used to be. We’re proposing that it will be a 45-foot-tall sign that will have OWA, an electronic board, and a directional that turns people into the property. It will get drivers back to the Foley Event Center and the Sports Tourism Complex.”

Foley Holdings LLC has been working closely with the city officials and the Engineering Department to make something that will pull the traffic off Hwy 59 and back into the OWA development, keeping the traffic on the highway moving and clear.

The sign will also have an electronic board, which will be used for multiple events that will be happening in the new developments.

“The electronic board will be used for events that we’re having currently at the sports fields,” Boatwright said. “It’s adding what’s going on at the Event’s Center, it can talk about if there is a championship tournament, and we can readily program it to show those two teams or those four teams in the finals. We can put in special events that are happening within the Event Center, and if we’re having something on the ball fields on the sides of the center, like archery, we can tell patrons going up and down Hwy 59 where those fields would be.”

The sign will also be able to show weather alters and information in the case of a hurricane or high winds. Other places in Foley would be able to advertise as well, showcasing events that are taking place throughout the city. This factor alone makes it appealing for both tourists who are coming from out of town as well as Baldwin County locals in retrieving information about events taking place in the community.

The council approved the plans that were brought before them, so citizens may not have to wait long before the sign will appear along Hwy 59.
