Point Broadband officially coming to Summerdale

SUMMERDALE - Point Broadband will be coming to the town of Summerdale after the town council voted unanimously during the May 8 council meeting.

The plans for the new broadband service were discussed during the April 10 meeting, and were again discussed during the May 2 workshop. Sherry Sullivan attended the workshop to talk with the council and to answer any questions that they or the citizens had concerning the new internet service, which will now give the citizens a third option for service.

“We are currently in negotiations with Summerdale and Loxley,” Sullivan said during the May 2 meeting. “We have signed contracts with Belforest, Baldwin County Commission, and Daphne Utilities, and we’re waiting on Atmore’s contract to be executed, but we’re expecting Summerdale, Loxley, and North Baldwin Utilities in the next two to three weeks.”

Once the contracts are worked out, Sullivan estimated that approximately 20 towers will be in use throughout the county.

Along with the contracts, Point Broadband is also looking for office space in a central location, and have already joined the Central Baldwin Chamber, the North Baldwin Chamber, and the Eastern Shore Chamber.

“We want to be in the community,” Sullivan stated. “We want to be here, and we really appreciate you working with us, and we hope to be able to provide the service to the citizens.”

Point Broadband is not alone. Since the announcement of the new provider looking for locations in the county, Sullivan said that the company has received numerous emails from hopeful citizens across Baldwin County showing their support of the new company.

The Summerdale water tower was inspected by both the Town of Summerdale and Point Broadband prior to the council, and the council all had high hopes for the new provider.

“I see this as a good thing for our town,” Mayor David Wilson said. “If by chance it’s not, we’re not locked into it. That’s the good part about it, but I don’t foresee that. All I’ve heard is good things about the company.”

Sullivan is hopeful that Point Broadband will be able to begin offering service by June 15.
