The 23rd Annual Relay for Life of Coastal South Baldwin is taking place on Saturday, Sept. 29 at Foley Heritage Park from 2 – 8 p.m., and the entire community is invited to come out and take part in the cause. Teams hail from Orange Beach, Gulf Shores, Foley, Fort Morgan, Bon Secour, Magnolia Springs, Fish River, Elberta, and Lillian, but everyone is welcome to participate. The Relay for Life is a fundraiser aimed towards cancer research and treatment. This year’s theme will be the Wizard of Oz: “There is no place like hope.”

The event begins promptly at 2 with activities such as the Wizard of Oz relay event, live music, scavenger hunts, face painting, and much more. Local restaurant Wacked Out Weiner will be onsite selling meals. The Opening Ceremony begins at 4:45, with guest speakers following. Then begins the Survivor/Caregiver Walk, honoring those who have fought cancer, known someone who has fought the battle, or cared for someone who has fought. The Luminaria Ceremony, which includes the lighting and releasing of luminarias in honor of everyone who has faced cancer themselves or with someone they love, will begin at 7 p.m. Luminarias can be purchased prior to the event at the Holmes Medical Museum Monday – Saturday, or at the event until 5:30 p.m.
