ROBERTSDALE, Alabama — The Robertsdale High School Junior ROTC team finished in the top 24 percent nationally among ROTC units during the first round of the CyberPatriot XIII competition held online Nov. 13-15.

The team, consisting of cadets Aidan Johnston, Andrew Prather, Austin Prather, Andora Bamford and Thomas Kichler (Elberta High School), ranked 179th out of 745 teams nationally in the All Service Division, which is made up of JROTC units, said RHS JROTC Commander Frank Starr.

The team finished in the top 23.5 percent of Alabama teams, ranking fourth out of the 17 teams competing statewide, Starr said.

“We owe a big thanks to (Meghan) Weaver for her assistance in getting everything lined up for the event,” Starr said.

CyberPatriot is the National Youth Cyber Education Program created by the Air Force Association to inspire K-12 students toward careers in cybersecurity or other science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

The 2019-20 season was the RHS NJROTC’s first year to compete in the global competition, finishing fourth in the five-state NJROTC Area 8 and in the top 25 percent of 6,700 teams nationally.

Round 2 of the competition will be held Dec. 11-13 with Round 3 scheduled for January. The National Finals will be held in March in Bethesda, Maryland.
