Richard Bixler Cunningham of Fairhope, Alabama died on Sept. 15, 2018.

He was born on Aug. 5, 1947 in Mobile. He graduated from Murphy High School in 1965, attended the University of Alabama and graduated from the University of South Alabama in 1969 with a degree in business.

He is survived by his son, Bixler Lyons Cunningham (Ashley Anderton Cunningham) of Daphne, Alabama; his daughter, Reba Lyons Cunningham (Jason Miller) of Los Angeles, California; his granddaughter, Reba Neville Miller; his former wife, Reba McLeod Cunningham of Fairhope, Alabama; his brother, Charles "Chuck" Cunningham Jr. of Sebastian, Florida; two nieces and one nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles A. Cunningham Sr. and Joan Bixler Cunningham.

He was a business owner and homebuilder in Gulf Shores for over 40 years.

He had a warm smile and independent nature, loved adventure and sport, travel and exploring - from Alaska to Colorado to the Yucatan. He loved scuba diving and marine life. He was happiest by the water and in the mountains.

He was a loyal friend - honorable to his core and a devoted father to his children, taking them on countless adventures near and far, sparking passions and creating memories they will cherish for a lifetime.

Friends and family will gather at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 16, at American Legion, 700 S. Mobile St. in Fairhope, to celebrate his life.
