Richard “Dick” Owens

Richard "Dick" Owens passed away on Oct. 15, 2018 at Windsor Point in Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina.

He was born in Warren, Ohio on May 12, 1928 to Joseph and Ethel Owens.

He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Owens; and by siblings, Jim Owens, Hazel Lane and Betty Royal.

Dick met his wife Eileen while in pre-flight training in Pensacola, Florida. They married in 1950.

After serving as a Navy pilot in the Korean War, he joined American Airlines. For the next 32 years he created a wonderful life for his family in Mahopac, New York. His daughter, Helen Arena, and her family settled in nearby Putnam Valley, New York. Dick and Eileen retired to Gulf Shores, Alabama in 1988.

In 2010, they settled in North Carolina to be near their daughter, Beth Loehfelm.

In addition to his wife and daughters, Dick is survived by five grandchildren, Andrew, Philip, Thomas and Katherine Arena, and Brenda Menard; as well as three great-grandchildren.

Dick Owens was devoted to his wife and children, and enjoyed tennis, skiing and camping with them and supporting them in all their endeavors. He will be remembered for his generous spirit and his many talents.

Dick's inurnment will be held at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, Apex, North Carolina on Thursday, Nov. 8, 2018 at 11 a.m.
