Robertsdale seniors donate supplies to RES

ROBERTSDALE, Alabama — Robertsdale seniors collected a wide variety of supplies which were presented to Robertsdale Elementary School on Wednesday, Aug. 21 at the George P. Thames Adult Activity Center.

“We deal with a high poverty level, in addition to having students whose mothers are residents of The Lighthouse (home for battered women),” said Sara Parker, who serves as a guidance counselor for third through sixth grade students at RES. “We have students enrolling every day and we keep supplies on hand so that we can prepare a backpack for them.

“It’s nice for us to be able to send them off to class on their first day with everything they need and donations such as this help us do that.”

Seniors began collecting supplies in early August and held a donation drive during the monthly Birthday Bash held Aug. 14. While there is not an exact number of supplies collected, Senior Center Volunteer Mary Williams said they were able to collect some of everything that was on the list of supplies, which included:

• Wide-ruled notebook paper.

• Primary journal.

• No. 2 pencils.

• Ticonderoga pre-sharpened pencils.

• Three-ring zipper pouch.

• Pencil cap erasers.

• Block erasers.

• Fiskars scissors (round tip).

• Black dry erase markers.

• Colored dry erase markers.

• Washable color markers.

• Colored highlight pencils.
