Ruth Jones Bassett of Citronelle peacefully passed Feb. 28, 2019 at her beloved home of 64 years.

She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church - Citronelle.

Ruth was co-salutatorian of Citronelle High School Class of 1948. She married Clay, the love of her life, Nov. 19 of that same year.

Ruth worked at Haas-Davis as an assistant for the next three years before beginning their family with their first son, Charles Edward (Charlie) in 1951. Four years later, they welcomed their second son, John Clay Bassett in 1955.

Throughout her 89 years, family and friends were Ruth's priority. She was the epitome of the ultimate hostess and a true example of a Southern lady. Her door was always open to her family, friends and church family.

She loved having a full house. There were many pool parties and billiards games at her home throughout the years.

She hosted the Jones Family Christmas for 45 years, sharing the holiday with her beloved husband, children, grandchildren, sisters, brother, nieces and nephews. Her Pecan Street family was dear to her and remained a beloved part of her family. Her life would not have been the same without the love and devotion of Claudia Ward, Donna Lambeth, Jerome "Red" Rocker, Mary McAdams, Sandra Robinson, Sonya West, Alicia Lawson, Mike John Williams, Belinda Busby and Vera Dueitt.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, Horace Clay Bassett; parents, Walter Wallace and Etta Jane Owens Jones; four sisters, Clarice Jones McCorquodale, Gladys Jones Hobbs Bethea, Myrtle Jones Wood, Mary Etta Jones McCorquodale; one brother, Walter Harold Jones; and one grandson, Jonathon Baxter Glover.

She is survived by her two sons, Charles Edward (Terry) Bassett of Fairhope and John Clay (Charmaine) Bassett of Citronelle; her beloved grandchildren, John Clay (Julie) Bassett II of Satsuma, Elizabeth Bassett McCain (Todd) of Mobile, Maree Bassett Landrum (D.J.) of Citronelle and Stefan (Kari) Glover of Marietta, Georgia; and her eight adored great-grandchildren, Farrah, Jackson, Aynsley, AnnaBeth, Anderson, Baxter, Piper and John Daniel.

The funeral service was held on Sunday, March 3, 2019 at Restoration Church in Citronelle, with Dr. Elbert Charpie and Rev. Marcus Hobbs officiating.

Interment was at Pine Crest Cemetery in Citronelle.
