BAY MINETTE, Alabama — Bay Minette Police responded Monday to a second shooting incident in less than a week this time on East Hickory Street.

According to a release issued late Monday, BMPD responded to shots fired at approximately 7:56 p.m. Monday and found a male subject with a gunshot wound to the chest and leg. The subject was taken to USA Medical Center by ambulance.

Shortly after, a female arrived at North Baldwin Infirmary with a gunshot wound to the chest. She was transported by Life Flight to USA. The condition of both subjects is unknown at this time.

Bay Minette police have one suspect in custody in a shooting incident that occurred Saturday at V & B Food Mart while a hit and run suspect remains at large.

Both incidents stem from an altercation which started in the store’s parking lot, according to a release issued Saturday.

Nathaniel K. Johnson, 22, of Bay Minette is in jail without bond, transported and booked into the Baldwin County Corrections Facility on Saturday, charged with second degree assault.

The suspect driving the vehicle that struck the individual in the roadway is still outstanding, according to a release issued Saturday by Bay Minette Police Chief Al Tolbert. The suspect vehicle is a white small SUV of unknown make and model.

According to the release, at approximately 5:45 p.m. on Saturday, BMPD patrol officers responded to V&B Food Mart in reference to a shooting.

When the patrol officers arrived on scene they discovered one adult male subject had been shot in the wrist in the store’s parking lot. Another adult male subject had been struck by a vehicle and sustained a leg injury in front of the convenience store on U.S. 31 South.

The shooting victim and the victim that was struck by the automobile were both transported to USA Medical center.

Investigators from the Bay Minette Police Department are still actively working this case and interviewing the victims and witnesses. More charges and arrests are likely to occur.

In a statement issued Monday, Police Chief Al Tolbert said the Bay Minette Police Department is continuing to investigate this incident, however, due to the threats of violence against the victims and their families, additional details are not being released at this time.

“The Police Department is withholding the release of the victims’ names as a safety precaution as well,” he said. “We appreciate you understanding our need to err on the side of caution.”

The names of the shooting victim and the hit and run victim have not been confirmed.
