Sheriff’s Office promotes three officers, makes command changes

On Nov. 19, the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office hosted a promotion ceremony at the Baldwin County Courthouse in Bay Minette for three of its officers and announced several command changes for the department.

Major Anthony Lowery was promoted to the rank of colonel, chief deputy. A 22-year veteran of law enforcement, he has served the past 12 years as the Assistant Chief Deputy in charge of law enforcement operations.

Prior to his employment with the sheriff’s office, Lowery worked for 11 years as chief investigator for the Baldwin County District Attorney’s office. Lowery is a graduate of Robertsdale High School and Auburn University. He is a graduate of the 252nd session of the FBI National Academy and is the current president of the Alabama chapter of the FBI National Academy Association.

Lowery will be taking over for retiring Chief Deputy Charlie Jones, a 37-year law enforcement veteran who spent the last 35 years with the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office, rising through the ranks to eventually serve as Chief Deputy for the past 12 years. Jones will retire Dec. 7.

Captain Stephen Arthur was promoted to the rank of major. Arthur is a 43-year veteran of law enforcement, having served the past 13 years with the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office where he has served as the Commander of Corrections and Chief Investigator.

Arthur worked with the Mobile Police Department for 28 years as well as the Alabama Peace Officers Standard Training Commission. He also served as director of the Southwest Alabama Police Academy for two years.

Arthur is a graduate of Mary G. Montgomery High School and Troy State University. He graduated from the 183rd session of the FBI National Academy and has received numerous awards and commendations throughout his career.

Arthur will be assigned as Assistant Chief Deputy in charge of Corrections command.

Major Jimmy Milton, who has recently been serving as the Assistant Chief Deputy and Commander of Corrections Command, will assume the Assistant Chief Deputy and Commander of the Law Enforcement Command. Milton is a 25-year veteran of law enforcement and has spent the last 21 years working with the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office. Milton previously worked 1.5 years with the Prichard Police Department and 2.5 years with the Daphne Police Department.

Milton is a graduate of John S. Shaw High School and Columbia Southern University. He is a graduate of the 243rd session of the FBI National Academy and previously served as a hostage negotiator, polygraph examiner, narcotics investigator, criminal investigator, honor guard commander and in other administrative positions.

Lieutenant Clint Cadenhead was promoted to the rank of captain. Cadenhead is a 24-year veteran of law enforcement, having spent the last 22 years with the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office. During that time, he was served in Patrol, Investigations, Special Operations, Narcotics and has been the Commander of the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office Drug Task Force for the last 7 years. Prior to working in Baldwin County, Cadenhead worked for the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.

He is a graduate of Brookwood High School and Auburn University, as well as a graduate of the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development program and of the National Command and Staff Leadership College from the National Sheriffs Association.

Cadenhead will be assigned as captain over the Investigations Command, supervising the Criminal Investigations Division and Narcotics Divisions.

Sheriff Hoss Mack said he was proud to be able to promote such officers and looked forward to the change in command the promotions represented.

“With these promotions today, we’ve got over 100 years of experience represented that will be helping to guide and lead this department,” Mack said. “The leadership skill and knowledge seen in these officers will help our sheriff’s office continue to be a shining example and a force for good across the county.”
