Sheriff’s office warns of scam

Posted

BAY MINETTE, Alabama — The Baldwin County Sheriff's Office has received several complaints regarding an individual claiming to be a deputy with the Baldwin County Sheriff's Office.

This scammer is calling residents, and telling them he has urgent information. In some cases, the scammer has left messages to the effect that he has urgent information, and asks the victim to call him back.

This scam is somewhat sophisticated in that when they call the scammer back, they hear a recording indicating that you have reached the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office.

“We are urging our citizens to be aware that this is a scam,” according to a release issued by the Sheriff’s Office over the weekend. “The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office will not request personal information over the phone or in a voicemail. We will not ask anyone to pay any fines for traffic citations, for missing jury duty or any other reason.”

The BCSO is currently investigating this scam. If anyone has been a victim of this or any other scam they should call 251-937-0202.
