Spooky good times ahead at Foley Senior Center

FOLEY - As we head into October, the Foley Senior Center is gearing up to deliver a month of spooks, fun, and adventure for its members (and new members looking to join). The monthly specials begin on Tue. Oct. 8 at 2 p.m. with BINGO with Brooke from Answered Prayer. Then on Fri., Oct. 11, the center welcomes county commissioner Billie Jo Underwood for Lunch N Learn at 11 a.m. The event costs $2 and includes a soup and salad lunch, and anyone interested is asked to please sign up and reserve their spot.

On Tue., Oct. 15 State Representative Steve McMillian and wife Gail will stop by the Senior Center for coffee at 9 a.m. Later that day, members are invited to the Foley Public Library at 1 p.m. for Movie Madness featuring ‘A Dog’s Journey.’ Sign up to reserve a place for both these events. Thur., Oct. 17 will see the final Dinner B4 Dark of the year taking place at DeSoto’s in Gulf Shores. The bus will depart the center at 3:45 p.m. and will return in time for members to make it home before dark. Registration is requested for those wishing to attend.

On Wed., Oct. 23, it’s off to adventure as the bus will depart from the center at 8:30 a.m. and travel to Pensacola, FL for the Blue Angels practice. The practice begins at 11:30 a.m. and lasts approximately one hour. Lunch will be enjoyed on the grounds followed by free time before a viewing of I-Max movie Apollo 11: First Steps Edition. Members will return to the center at around 4 p.m. This will be a heavy walking and sometimes hurried trip, and the cost is $17 per person and covers lunch and the I-Max. Please remember no one is officially signed up for the trip until dues have been paid.

There will be no potluck dinner during October, due to the big event everyone’s been waiting for. On Tue., Oct. 29 at noon, the Foley Senior Center will host its 13th Annual Halloween Party at the Foley Civic Center. This year will feature the infamous Parade of Ghouls, costume contest, prizes, food, and fun. The cost is $3 per person, and the center asks attendees to bring a non-perishable food item to be donated to the Council on Aging’s Food Pantry. Reservation is required.

Aside from the big monthly events, the Foley Senior Center has weekly events happening throughout the entire month, including crochet and knitting, line dancing, square dancing, open jams, pinochle, yoga, ballroom lessons, cards, photography clubs, and lots more!
