Summerdale dedicates first historical marker

Posted

The Town of Summerdale dedicated its very first historical marker on Thursday, Sept. 20, after long efforts by multiple organizations. City officials, officers, citizens, members of United Daughters of the Confederacy Foley Chapter, and members of the Baldwin County Historic Development Commission (BCHDC) were present, all having took part in the completion and placement of the marker, which is located on the corner of Highway 32 and Highway 59. The marker is two-sided, with one side telling the story of Summerdale’s turpentine still and the other telling the town’s history. The marker comes through an effort by the BCHDC to place markers around the county in celebration of Alabama’s 200th Birthday, which will take place in 2019.

The marker is now in place for viewing by all interested parties. To learn more about Alabama’s bicentennial celebrations, check out the official website at www.alabama200.org.
