The Dolphin Foundation for Education and Arts held is annual fundraiser Sept. 27 at the new Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo. Guests enjoyed a sneak peak at the new zoo facilities while raising money for Gulf Shores City Schools.

“When we planned this event, we were hoping to sell at least 150 to 175 tickets, but we sold about 320 tickets. I am excited about Gulf Shores residents supporting the Gulf Shores City Schools. There is a silent auction, live auction, three food stations and some live animals’ stations. Should just be a good time socializing, getting to see everybody and hopefully raise a little bit of money,” said Jason Stephenson, Dolphin Foundation Chairmen.

The evening started with check-in by the Safari Club restaurant and a torch lighted walkway past the carousel. The long winding boardwalk led guests to the Savanah Manor facility where a live band entertained, and a food truck served as one of three food stations.

The silent auction items were on display inside the Savanah Manor building as well as a large dessert display. Silent auction items included a gift basket from Island Orthodontics featuring a $1,000 gift voucher, behind-the-scenes tour at Alligator Alley, three-night stay at the Beach Club, wagon of wine, honorary team captain experience and drum major to name just a few.

Outside on the lake, another food station grilled up skewers and one of many bars was busy serving cocktails.

School board president Kevin Cochran served as the auctioneer for the live auction items that brought in a good amount of money as well as excitement. Big Beach Brewery donated a small batch brewing experience that sold for $1,300, the first ever Gulf Shores City School logo created sold for $700 and Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo donated a Dine with Giraffe experience that brought in $3,250.

The Dolphin Foundation for Education and Arts is currently working on their remaining planks which include building a music and stem lab. If you would like more information about the foundation or how you can get involved visit www.thegsdf.org.
