Three BCHS Lady Tigers sign softball scholarships

BAY MINETTE, Ala. -- Baldwin County High School had three Lady Tigers sign scholarships to continue playing the game of softball at the next level. Kahalley Brooks inked with Coastal Alabama Community College in Bay Minette; Ava Worthy signed with Chipola College in Marianna, Fla.; and Layla Hadley will play for Bishop State Community College in Mobile.

“I’m extremely proud of each of these young ladies,” said Coach Anthony Cox. “First, they are good students and have good character. Second, they are coachable and respectful and last, but not least, they are very good softball players who love to play the game. Each college is getting a player that will be ready to play and compete for a starting position.”

Kahalley has served as Pitcher/Shortstop with a .434 batting average, with 5 homeruns, 10 doubles, 1 triple, 28 runs scored and 37 RBIs and she won 10 games on the pitching mound.

Ava Worthy played the outfield and batted .419 with 2 homeruns, 17 doubles, 3 triples, 38 runs scored, 25 RBIs and 26 stolen bases. Layla Hadley cover second base, shortstop and the outfield. She batted .315 with 10 doubles, 2 triples, 20 runs scored, 20 RBIs, and 15 stolen bases.

Kahalley has been with the BCHS Softball program since her seventh-grade year and led the team in hitting the last 3 years. She has started at shortstop and pitcher since the end of her seventh-grade year, made the AHSAA North-South All-star team and is a three-time All-County selection. “Kahalley will be an asset on the college level on the mound or any infield position,” Cox said.

Layla has been with the program since her eighth-grade year and has started at 2nd base and shortstop when Kahalley is pitching since her eighth-grade year.

“Layla can play multiple positions (infield or outfield) and that will be a plus for her on the college level. She is a very good baserunner as well,” Cox said.

Ava has played for the Lady Tigers since her freshman year when she moved to Bay Minette from Florida. She will be return to Florida to play at Chipola College, one of the top JUCO college softball programs in the nation. Cox said Ava has been a “sparkplug in our lineup since she moved up on varsity halfway through her ninth-grade year. She has started at centerfield, she has pitched a little, and played second base a little, but she will be primarily an Outfielder in college.” Ava also made the AHSAA North-South All-star team and has been an All-County selection the last two years.

Cox said another senior player, Laura Weatherford, should be signing in the near future as well.

Before they move on to the college level, these players will be leading the Lady Tigers in another season.

“These young ladies are looking forward to an outstanding senior year and I’m looking forward to coaching them for one more season,” Cox said. “Their goal is to lead us to the Regional Tournament in Gulf Shores and to the State Tournament in Montgomery. Special thanks to the parents and grandparents of these young ladies!”
