Tickets for Feb. 5 Gulf Shores Garden Club Floral Seminar on sale

Advance tickets are now on sale for the Gulf Shores Garden Club’s 29th Annual Floral Seminar Wednesday, Feb. 5, at the Erie Meyer Civic Center in Gulf Shores.

The popular event is always an early January sellout and is the best winter ticket in Gulf Shores. Tickets are $20 (advance purchase only). The theme is “Celebrating Mardi Gras Through Flowers—Laissez Les Bons Temps Rouler!”

To complement the theme, noted floral designer Lucinda Peltier from New Iberia, La., will be guest speaker.

Being from the heart of South Louisiana, Peltier will share her experiences of growing up in Mardi Gras culture. As she likes to say, “I live where we laissez les bons temps rouler (Let the good times roll!), where purple, green and gold are the colors of the season, and where there is a baby in the cake and we learn to say Throw me something, Mister!”

She has been in the floral industry for over 25 years. A Louisiana Master florist and a former flower shop owner, in 2002 she was inducted into AIFD (American Institute of Floral Designers), becoming one of nine in the state to hold the accreditation and one of approximately 2000 worldwide.

From 2005-2019 Peltier was the Floral Supervisor at L’Auberge Casino Resort in Lake Charles, La., where she was instrumental in all floral designs throughout the 70,000 square ft. property. She and her team were responsible for all events, including the annual New Year’s Eve party, which usually included more than 200 centerpieces.

In 2010 she received the honor of L’Auberge Supervisor of the Year, and in 2016 Peltier won the title of Louisiana Designer of the Year. She is currently employed at Spedale’s florist and Wholesale in Lafayette, La., where she is the lead designer.

Doors open at 9:15 a.m. and the program starts at 10 a.m. Entry includes lunch, raffles and exciting door prizes. Tickets are available at The Thomas Norton Public Library (221 West 19th Avenue) in Gulf Shores or by contacting Charlotte Higgins at 205-410-3190 or c.s.higgins@gmail.com or Mindy Jones at
