BAY MINETTE, Alabama— Two Mobile County men were arrested and charged with drug possession following a routine traffic stop in Bay Minette early Saturday morning.

A Bay Minette Patrol Officer stopped a 1995 Toyota Celica at approximately 1:44 a.m. Saturday, April 28, according to a release issued Monday by Chief Al Tolbert.

During the course of the traffic stop, officers observed a black bag containing marijuana lying in plain sight in the passenger compartment of the car.

Officers received verbal consent from the driver Caleb Delafosse and from the registered owner, George Leverette, who was the passenger in the vehicle to search the car for illegal narcotics.

During the search officers discovered more than two pounds of high grade marijuana, zanax pills, large amount of United States currency, and drug paraphernalia items consistent with items used for drug distribution. Officers learned through the arresting process and investigation of this traffic stop that the suspects were traveling from North Mobile County to an unknown location in North Baldwin County where they intended to deliver the narcotics.

Delafosse, 19, of Mobile and Leverette, 20, of Satsuma were both charged with unlawful possession of marijuana first degree, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, and unlawful possession drug paraphernalia. Both individuals are still in the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Correction Center, Delafosse on a $9,500 bond; Leverette on a $5,000 bond.

“These arrests are part of our continued effort to combat drug crimes and keep our communities safe and drug free,” Tolbert said in the release. “We ask anyone who has any information regarding crimes in the City of Bay Minette to email it to (tips@ci.bay-minette.al.us) or call 251-580-2559.”
