SUMMERDALE, Alabama — Law enforcement officials are investigating a crash that killed a Foley man and his 4-year-old daughter Monday on Alabama 59 in Summerdale.

William Michael Dalton, 45, of Foley was traveling north on Alabama 59 when a vehicle, that was pulling onto the highway from a shopping center between Couch Plant Road and County Road 48 South, reportedly clipped his vehicle, sending both spinning out of control, said Cpl. Vince Miller with the Summerdale Police Department in a phone interview on Monday.

Dalton’s vehicle spun into oncoming southbound traffic and collided with a Waste Management truck. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

“There was just no way the truck could avoid hitting him,” Miller said.

The only other passenger in the vehicle, identified as his 4-year-old daughter, was rushed to South Baldwin Regional Medical Center, where she was later pronounced deceased.

In all there were five vehicles involved in the accident. Several other injuries were reported, Miller said, none life-threatening. Miller said the Summerdale PD is assisting the Foley Police Department in the investigation.

“We certainly want to send condolences to that family,” Miller said. “They are in our thoughts and prayers.”
