Tragedy struck in Foley Sunday night, Aug. 5, soon before 10 p.m. when Josie Jones (20) of Orange Beach lost her life in a car accident on the Foley Beach Express. Jones was nearing her 30th week of pregnancy, and her unborn child was also killed in the collision.

Investigators claim the accident occurred when Debra Estep (57) of Elberta turned into the wrong lane while entering onto the Foley Beach Express from the intersection at County Road 20. Estep collided head-on with the oncoming vehicle which Jones was a passenger in. Jones was flown to Sacred Heart Hospital, where she and her unborn child later died.

Estep was also flown to the hospital for injuries, while the driver of the second vehicle sustained minor injuries. Police suspect alcohol played a role in the accident, which is being investigated by the Foley Police Department’s Traffic Homicide Division.
