FOLEY — An Orange Beach man and a Foley man are facing robbery and kidnapping charges after a man reportedly was picked up outside a bar on County Road 12, taken to a secluded area and robbed of money and his cell phone.

According to a release issued Friday by the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office, deputies received a complaint on Saturday, Oct. 25 of a possible kidnapping and robbery that occurred at the Tavern Bar, located on County Road 12 in the Foley area.

The victim of the incident reported to deputies that he was at the Tavern and was standing outside waiting on a ride when a flat black BMW occupied by two white male subjects pulled into the parking lot by where he was standing. The victim stated that the passenger in the vehicle stepped out of the BMW, pulled a handgun on him and ordered him into the vehicle, according to the report.

The victim was seated in the front passenger seat and the subject was seated in the rear seat. The victim identified the driver of the BMW and as man he knows as “Cruise.”

The victim stated that they two subjects drove him to a nearby gas station and when the male in the rear of the vehicle went into pay, he attempted to exit the vehicle but at that time “Cruise” pulled a handgun and ordered him to remain in the vehicle.

While driving away from the gas station the victim stated that the subject in the rear of the vehicle demanded the victim’s cell phone and when he refused the subject again brandished a gun and took the phone.

Eventually, after driving around for several minutes, the victim stated that the subjects drove to County Road 4 and stopped. The pair ordered the victim out of the car and the victim stated that “Cruise” then pulled his pistol and told the him to “get on the ground and give me your money.”

The pair then left the victim on the side of the road. The victim was picked up and given a ride to the toll booth on the Beach Express and Orange Beach Police were summoned.

Once OBPD arrived, the driver of the vehicle was identified as Steve Carlos Cruz, 25, of Orange Beach. The second subject was later identified as Zachary Samuel Gentry, 34, of Foley. Warrants were obtained on both men for robbery first degree and kidnapping second degree. Both men were arrested and taken to the Baldwin County Corrections Center.

According to the Baldwin County Corrections Center website, Cruz was released Thursday on a $75,000 bond. As of Friday, Gentry remained in jail on a $35,000 bond.
