BAY MINETTE, Alabama — Two men face identity theft charges after fraudulent credit cards, among other items, were found in their vehicle during a routine traffic stop on Interstate 65 on Tuesday.

According to a release issued Wednesday by the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office investigations command, Steven Elijah Davis, 26, of Garden, New York, and Cory Devin Shaw, 27, of Lithonia, Georgia, were arrested and charged with trafficking in stolen identities, fraudulent use of a debit/credit card; possession of a forgery device. Both men are in jail on a $23,500 bond.

Baldwin County Sheriff Deputies initiated a traffic stop Tuesday on a Nissan Altima with North Carolina license plates on south bound Interstate 65 near the 37 mile-marker at the Bay Minette/Rabun, according to the release.

Davis, the driver of the vehicle, stated they were going to an undisclosed city near the state line, but never stated which state. Shaw, the vehicles passenger, stated they were heading to Louisiana for two or three days to partake in Mardi Gras festivities (which ended on Tuesday, Feb. 13).

A consensual search of the vehicle was granted which led to the discovery of approximately 31 fraudulent credit cards, numerous fake IDs to correspond with the cards and a card scanner. All items were found on the backseat in a backpack.
