FOLEY - On Wed., Sept. 19, the Foley Public Library will participate in Snapshot Day: One Day in the Life of Alabama Public Libraries. The library will be joining public libraries across the state to show how important public libraries and library systems are to the state of Alabama. The library will compile statistics, patron comments, photographs, and other data chronicling a typical library day. The results will be added to those of public libraries across Alabama to show the invaluable service libraries provide to our state’s citizens.
If you join us on Sept. 19 during the hours of 10 - 11 a.m. or 3 - 4 p.m., you can participate in a special photo session that will be included in our Banned Book display. Patrons can have their photo taken with a special “Library Policeman” while holding their favorite banned book and wearing toy handcuffs. Permission forms will be on hand to allow us to post these photos in the library, on our website, and on our Facebook page.
Banned Book Week, Sept. 23 – Sept. 29, will include the aforementioned display as well as a couple of Banned Book games throughout the week.
On Tues., Sept. 25, the library will feature a “Name the Banned Book” game. Come in and look over 10 brown paper covered banned books. Quotes about why they were requested to be banned will be on the covers. You must write down the titles you believe the books to have. A drawing will be conducted from the names of all participants for a special gift card.
Come see us on Fri., Sept. 28, and help us complete the analogy, “A room without books is like…” You can bring a photo, create a picture, or write a saying to complete this sentence. We will display all at the library on Friday and Saturday.
For more information on either of these special events or other events going on at the Foley Public Library, please call 251-943-7665 or check out our website, www.foleylibrary.org, or our Facebook page.
