ROBERTSDALE, Alabama — Come join the South Alabama Regional Planning Commission’s Area on Aging for fun and food while promoting a healthy lifestyle at the 2019 Baldwin County Senior Lifestyle Expo.

The event will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9 at the Baldwin County Coliseum, 19477 Fairground Road in Robertsdale.

The annual Mobile event has been going on for well over a decade, with the Baldwin County event beginning in June of 2012 as a way to better serve its residents.

The following year the event was moved to the fall and in 2015, the Expo celebrated the 50th anniversary of the passage of the Older Americans Act and the establishment of Medicare and Medicaid.

“We usually have about 800 to 900 people attend and, with good weather expected, we’re hoping for at least that many this year,” said Nancy Bledsoe with the Area Agency on Aging. “We just want everybody to come out, have a good time and learn about their healthcare options.”

The event will include free health screenings provided by a variety of local healthcare providers and information on aging services. Flu shots will be also be available, provided by CVS.

The event will also feature a “Medicare Mall” providing information for Medicare’s Open Enrollment program. Oct. 15 through Dec. 7 is the time for seniors to review their plans and make any changes that need to be made by the Jan. 1 deadline.

Information is also provided regarding programs available through the Area Agency on Aging.

The event includes entertainment and shopping with games and prizes and a market area with local vendors, including personalities from WKRG Channel 5.

“Everyone who attends will get a tote bag with our free ‘Senior Resource Guide,’” Bledsoe said, “along with a ticket for a free box lunch, a ticket for our prize drawing, and a ticket to spin the ‘Wheel of Fortune’ for the chance to win a prize.”

Admission and parking are free.
