WABF on the air in new location

Listeners across the Eastern Shore have started their mornings with WABF 1220 AM’s Lori DuBose bringing them news and information – now, she’s just doing it from a new location.

WABF has moved offices from its former location on Section Street to a new studio at 9 N. Church Street, right in the heart of scenic downtown Fairhope.

“It’s wonderful being downtown and feeling even more a part of the community, if that’s possible,” DuBose said.

From her new studio, DuBose has a window view looking out onto Church Street, which she said is an amazing amenity to have.

“Having the classic street front window studio is any broadcaster’s dream,” DuBose said. “It’s great to get to see people wave as they drive or walk by. It just makes you feel like you’re a part of it all.”

The station was officially sold to Eternity Media Group back in August, which necessitated the move.

DuBose said there were no format changes coming for the beloved Fairhope radio station, but listeners may have noticed some slight adjustments.

“We’re adjusting along with the times, so our format is the same but we’re adding some more great music, like some more stuff from the 70s,” DuBose said. “Most of the feedback we’ve gotten has been really positive about that.”

DuBose has said the station is definitely going to continue its Community Calendar interviews and its popular Swap Shop call-in program.

“Those are staples of what we do, and that won’t change,” DuBose said.

DuBose said there have been some problems with some listeners in the coverage area not being able to pick up the broadcasts, but she said a fix was already in the works.

“What the FCC approved and what engineering planned on paper did not work in actuality, so some areas that usually can hear us very well cannot,” DuBose said. “We’re already working to fix those issues and, in many cases, have already fixed them. We don’t expect this to be an issue much longer.”

DuBose said she hopes listeners will continue to support the station and said WABF’s new motto helps describe what she wants the station to be for the area.

“Our new slogan is ‘Great Music, Great Memories,’” DuBose said. “That’s what we’re all about – playing great music for people to enjoy and continuing to be the voice of the community and let people know about all of the great things going on here.”
