FBI investigating Loxley bank robbery

LOXLEY, Alabama — The Loxley Police Department and Federal Bureau of Investigations are seeking any information that could lead to the arrest of an individual that robbed the Loxley branch of United Bank at gunpoint Wednesday afternoon.

According to Lt. Tony Lovell, chief investigator with the Loxley Police Department, at approximately 12:45 p.m. Wednesday, an individual described as an older white male wearing a blue hoodie pulled down to obscure his features walked into the bank, brandished a gun at two male employees and demanded money.

He was able to walk out of the bank carrying an undisclosed amount of cash and drove off in what is believed to be a 2006 or 2007 two-tone blue over tan Ford Explorer.

“He went back toward the highway, turned left onto 59 and that’s about all we know at this point,” Lovell said.

The investigation has been turned over to the FBI, Lovell said, and the suspect is facing federal bank robbery charges.

If you have any information that could lead to the arrest of this individual, call the FBI’s Mobile field office bank robbery division at 251-438-3674 (option 2), or the Loxley Police Department, 251-964-6000; Lt. Tony Lovell, 251-964-5029 or Lt. Doug Phillips, 251-964-5034.
