LILLIAN, Alabama — An Elberta man is dead after he was struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross the street in Lillian Thursday evening.

According to a release issued Thursday by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, Stephen Randall Brannan, 35, of Elberta was pronounced dead at the scene just after 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.

He was attempting to cross U.S. 98 at the intersection of South Santa Piedro Street when he was struck by a 2007 Ford F-150 traveling eastbound, driven by 77-year-old Melvin Whitehurst of Lillian.

Whitehurst was not injured, and no charges have been filed in connection with the crash. Troopers continue to investigate.
