GULF SHORES — Advance tickets are now on sale for the Gulf Shores Garden Club’s 26th Annual Floral Seminar on Wednesday, Feb. 1 at the Erie Meyer Civic Center in Gulf Shores.

Guest speaker Kirk Brooker’s program will be “Sea Naturals.” Doors open at 9:15 a.m. and the program starts at 10 a.m.

Immensely popular, the seminar always sells out. Tickets are $20 and are available by advance purchase only. Entry includes lunch and exciting door prizes. Tickets also include the opportunity for many exciting raffles and second chance raffles.

Tickets are available for purchase at The Thomas Norton Public Library at 221 W. 19th Ave. in Gulf Shores. Tickets can also be obtained by contacting Kim Edgerton at 251-943-3672 or kimbilledge@yahoo.com or Mindy Jones at 251-968-9777 or islandenclosures@gulftel.com.

Groups of 10 or more can request reserved seating by contacting Kim or Mindy with your group name. The deadline to purchase and receive tickets by mail is Jan. 4.

Diane Farnham is the chair and Linda Center the co-chair for this event. Proceeds benefit the Gulf Shores Garden Club Scholarship Fund, local charity organizations and other garden club community projects and interests.

A native of Demopolis, Brooker’s expertise is using mostly natural finds in his arrangements. He wows audiences with the unique ways he creates his designs. The atmosphere he creates gives his audience the confidence to go home and try to create a beautiful design using items in their garden from local florists or even from the roadside.

In addition to being the operations director for the Marengo County Historical Society, Brooker has his own design business. His eye for design has extended beyond graphics and into interiors, painting, floral, and event planning.

He also works with area schools in art education, and has been commissioned by towns and schools in the region for outdoor and indoor murals.

Active in community theater, Booker has worked on stage, back stage and off stage for the past 15 years. His most recent roles include Tom in Glass Menagerie with the Canebrake Players in Demopolis and Chip in the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee at the Sumter Theatre Workshop in Livingston. He’s also directed several productions.

The Gulf Shores Garden Club has donated and participated in many local areas this past year including the Alabama Coastal Clean-up, Christmas in Park-Foley, Gulf Shores Holiday Beach Event, Poinsettias for Meals on Wheels, Veteran's Appreciation Party William F. Green Home, Butterfly Garden at Gulf Shores Elementary School, Golden Living Courtyard Garden, SPARC Jr. Gardener’s Program, Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo, Gulf Shores High School Environmental Academy, Gulf Shores Middle School Horticultural Class, Benches for Gulf Shores Cultural and Events Center, Scholarship for Faulkner State Community College Horticultural student, Donation Alabama Garden Club Scholarship Fund, Beautification project Gulf Coast Art Alliance, Share the Beach, Bench for Graham Creek Nature Preserve, Benches for Golden Living and the Gulf Shores Museum.

“We are very proud to be a part of this community and appreciate all the businesses that are able to help us with our fundraiser,’’ Farnham said.
