Blue Marlin Grand Championship 2019 canceled

Officials have announced that the Blue Marlin Grand Championship 2019 has been canceled.

Jim Cox, host and emcee of the tournament, made the announcement on the tournament Facebook page in a live video from Marlin Circle at the Wharf.

Sunday morning it was announced that the tournament would be shifted up one day due to possibilities of tropical weather and rough seas.

As of Monday morning’s 8 a.m. update, the National Weather Service in Mobile announced, the probability of a tropical system forming in the Gulf within the next five days is now 80 percent.

“Blue Marlin Grand Championship officials number one concern is the safety of the fleet. Even if the storm does not form the forecast has the seas predicted to be too rough to safely fish or have an enjoyable time,” Cox said during the announcement.

The tournament is not going to be rescheduled due to conflicts, but it will be back in 2020.
