STOCKTON, Alabama — A Bay Minette man is in jail following a shooting during an argument Friday at Boatyard Landing in the Stockton Community in northern Baldwin County.

According to the Baldwin County Corrections Center website, Sean Edward Kelley, 43, of Bayou Road was booked in the early morning hours on Saturday on charges of first-degree assault. He was released later that morning on a $10,000 bond.

“Our investigation to date indicates that several residents were enjoying a bonfire when an argument started,” according to the release by Lt. Andre Reid.

The argument intensified and shots were fired into the air, according to the release. When the alleged shooter was approached, he turned his gun to the other man, shooting him multiple times.

The alleged shooter was then tackled, and the firearm was wrestled away from him, but he fled into the flooded areas near the Alabama River before deputies arrived.

While processing the scene, deputies located and arrested the alleged shooter, identified as Kelley, who was then transported to North Baldwin Infirmary Medical Center for injuries sustained during the initial altercation.

He was treated for minor injuries and released before being booked into the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Corrections Center, according to the release.

The other man involved in the shooting was taken by helicopter to University Hospital in Mobile. He sustained non-life-threatening injuries and is recovering.

The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office will continue to investigate this matter and the case will be presented to the Baldwin County District Attorney’s Office for review and prosecution.
