ROBERTSDALE, Alabama — A father and son received unspecified injuries when the glider plane the father was piloting crashed into a wooded area Saturday, Aug. 24 off of Koier Road in the Elsanor community east of Robertsdale.

At around 3:45 p.m. on Saturday, the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office issued a tweet saying that BCSO units, along with fire and medical, were on the scene of the crash.

At 4:33 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office reported that the pilot and passenger were transported to a hospital in Pensacola.

According to reports, the pilot, identified as a member of Coastal Soaring, was transported by Life Flight to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola. The passenger, identified as the pilot’s son, was transported by ground ambulance to the hospital.

In an interview on Monday, Capt. Clint Cadenhead with the BCSO investigations command, said he did not know the condition of either person involved in the incident.

“We had a deputy report to the scene,” Cadenhead said, “and when he determined that the scene was secure, he left.”

The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office is not investigating the crash, Cadenhead said.

An attempt to contact Coastal Soaring has yet to be returned.
