MOBILE, Ala. -- Chase Bitowf is now the director of football video at the University of South Alabama after taking over the department in July. In his role with the Jaguars, The Daphne native is responsible for coordinating the filming and breakdown of practices and games for coaches’ analysis, directing the production of motivational, promotional, and recruiting highlights, and overseeing the exchange of video with opponents.
Bitowf came to South after three seasons as the football video coordinator at Southern Mississippi, where he oversaw daily operations that included assisting all members of the Golden Eagle program with their technological needs, maintaining a video library that included game, practice and opponent tape, creating all motivational and recruiting films and managing inventory of all electronic and camera equipment.
He also oversaw planning for all technical aspects of the team’s three postseason bowl appearances during his tenure and implementation of a cloud-based service that gave members of the program the ability to study film remotely while overseeing a staff that included one graduate and 10 student assistants.
In March 2017 he was named the Conference-USA Video Coordinator of the Year by the Collegiate Sports Video Association, an honor that put him in contention for the organization’s Bob Matey National Video Coordinator of the Year Award. During his time with the program the Golden Eagles posted a 24-16 mark overall and were 17-7 in league play, advancing to the 2015 C-USA Championship Game while playing in three bowls highlighted by a victory in the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl to cap the ’16 campaign.
In his lone season as a video assistant at Mississippi State, Bitowf edited practice film, recorded video during games to be used in highlight pieces, created films for recruiting purposes and aided both coaches and student-athletes with their technological needs as the Bulldogs achieved the school’s first-ever number one ranking en route to a berth in the 2015 Capital One Orange Bowl.
Bitowf graduated from West Alabama in 2011 with a degree in physical education. A linebacker on the football team, he made the Gulf South Conference Academic Honor Roll in 2008 before serving as student video coordinator for the program during the ‘10 season. After graduation, Bitowf was a video assistant for the National Football League’s Cincinnati Bengals for two years before returning to UWA as football video coordinator in 2013 where he was part of a staff that helped the Tigers to the 2013 Gulf South title.
A member of the Collegiate Sports Video Association, Bitowf received the organization’s Billy Vizzini Scholarship in 2014.
