Gulf Shores Fire and Emergency Services earns ISO Class 1 rating

Posted

Gulf Shores Fire and Emergency Services has once again received the ISO (Insurance Service Officer) Public Protection Classification grade of 1.

This rating is the highest rating possible from ISO, whose primary goal is to rate fire prevention within a city. Per ISO Mitigation, only 393 other communities throughout the United States, and only 13 communities in Alabama, have achieved this top rating.

According to ISO, a community’s investment in fire mitigation is a proven and reliable predictor of future fire losses.

Fire Chief Mark Sealy stated, “I would like to thank Mayor Craft, City Council, prior Fire Chief Hartly Brokenshaw and our City Administration for their support which has allowed us to once again achieve the highest possible ISO classification possible. It takes a team effort to accomplish this, and it should be a source of pride for the entire Gulf Shores community.” Sealy further states, “This classification will continue to benefit business and residences with insurance rate reductions as well as peace of mind.”

The ISO rating system affects how insurance companies classify rates, following a 10 – 1 scale, with 1 being the best rating possible. After an ISO survey, the data is sold to insurance companies that will determine how to handle rates based on the information. There are multiple factors that affect an ISO rating, from training, number of fire stations, and distance between fire hydrants.
