GULF SHORES, AL – The City of Gulf Shores will host a ribbon cutting ceremony for the recently renovated pool and aquatic center at the David L. Bodenhamer Recreation Center on Friday, Nov. 18 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

Bodenhamer Center Members and the general public are invited to attend the event which will include special guests, a slideshow of the renovations, and demonstrations in the pool. Refreshments will be served.

“We are excited for our community to experience the pool following the renovations; it is truly a beautiful pool, “Recreation Manager Nicole Ard said. “These contemporary upgrades will improve both the water and air quality in the aquatics center while also being more environmentally friendly by consuming less energy.”

Improvements to the pool and aquatic center began in August. Major improvements have been made to the HVAC and ventilation system and a state of the art filtration system utilizing recycled glass medium was added, offering patrons better water and air quality within the facility.

Additional improvements include a resurfaced pool complete with tile and easy-entry stairs, a new pool deck, refurbished pool heater, freshly painted walls and restored wooden ceiling.

This is the first major renovation to the pool and aquatic center which was originally constructed as an outdoor pool in 1984 and then enclosed with the addition of the David L. Bodenhamer Recreation Center in 1997.
