Orange Beach City Council Member, Joni Blalock, is announcing her candidacy for reelection to Place 5 on the Council. She has served on it since 2004.

Blalock, who works at Perdido Beach Resort as the Senior sales manager, hopes to continue her service to the residents of Orange Beach. “For more than 35 years, I have been an active leader and public servant in the Orange Beach community. I want to continue to offer transparent and trustworthy representation by always putting the citizens of Orange Beach first.”

She is a dedicated leader in the Gulf Coast area—having been highly instrumental in the relief responses to Hurricanes Ivan and Katrina, as well as the BP oil spill. Over the years, Blalock has been instrumental in numerous city projects, such as the expansion of Canal Road, the promotion of education, the preservation of the Islands of Perdido, the creation of the Coastal Arts Center and soon-to-open Performing Arts Center, and much more.

She has also served in many other leadership roles throughout the area and is currently a board member for the Islands of Perdido Foundation and the Orange Beach Library. She also recently served on the boards for the Gulf Coast Health Care Authority and the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo Foundation.

Blalock has four children and one grandchild. She is proud to have raised her children in Orange Beach, where she served as one of the earliest coaches for Orange Beach's youth softball and soccer programs. She also helped establish the Orange Beach Sports Association.

She will continue to support responsible and thoughtful growth for the city of Orange Beach as well as environmental stewardship: “I’d like to see the creation of more single family, residential neighborhoods to encourage families with children to live here and attend our beautiful new schools. I also want to keep working to protect our beaches, wetlands, water quality, wildlife and more, so our little piece of paradise never loses the things that make it so special.”
