Sydney Chandler has been helping direct the offense for the Mississippi College women's volleyball team. The Choctaws’ senior setter led the team with 201 assists in playing the first 11 matches. The Bayside Academy graduate was second on the squad in service aces and sixth in digs.

Chandler had 11 or more assists in 10 matches and had a season-high 25 assists twice. She has reached double figures in digs twice, with a season best of 12.

More women's volleyball

University of Alabama Birmingham redshirt senior outside hitter Gabby Deshotel was named the Most Valuable Player of the Fight Like Hal Memorial Tournament. The Bayside alumna also was named to the all-tournament team. She had 30 kills and 29 digs during the tournament.

Goshen College freshman outside hitter Natalie Omtvedt ranked fourth on the team with 79 kills through 16 matches. The Daphne High graduate was sixth with 60 digs. She tied for the team lead with 11 kills during a loss to University of Saint Francis.

Toccoa Falls College sophomore outside hitter Theresa Sullivan had six digs and four kills against Brewton-Parker University. She is out of Central Christian School.

University of Mobile middle blocker Carley Hamric had a season-high seven blocks and added five kills against Point University. She played for Spanish Fort High.

WOMEN'S GOLF

Formerly at Spanish Fort, Wagner College freshman Amelia Bjuro shot a 257 (86-82-89) in the Rutgers Invitational.

Robertsdale High graduate Jewels Ontiveros is a freshman for Wallace State Community College.

MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY

Ash Midyett was second among Sewanee's runners and 27th overall in the 8K at the University of Alabama in Huntsville meet. The sophomore competed for Bayside.

Fairhope High graduate Caleb Casolaro was sixth among the Vanderbilt University Commodores at the Belmont Opener.

University of Montevallo's Connor Ryan, a past Pirate, was eighth for the University of Montevallo Falcons in the Falcon Classic non-Division I race.
