Large group of volunteers help Turkey Take-Out Gulf Shores feed local families

Posted

Turkey Take-Out began 10 years ago at Foley Elementary School when Dr. Bill Lawrence, former principal of Foley Elementary School, along with Ginny and Rob Barnas, owners of Island Air, had a vision to provide Thanksgiving dinners to families in the community who had a need. The program expanded into the Gulf Shores, Orange Beach & Swift school districts this year and fed an estimated 75 families.

Turkey Take-Out partnered with Gulf Shores, Orange Beach and Swift schools to provide Thanksgiving meals to families who may need a little extra help this year. Turkey Take-Out was established to provide families with a warm meal on Thanksgiving Day as well as non-perishable food items to fill the pantries of those in need.

The community showed up and filled Gulf Shores Elementary to prep Thanksgiving meals, and pack bags with pantry items. Outside smokers were hard at work smoking turkeys. After everything was complete and packed up, volunteers delivered the meals to local families.
