As the City of Orange Beach prepares for utility movement on Canal Road ahead of the widening project, it is also undertaking some resurfacing work.
Before the end of the year, 18 city streets will be repaved as the Orange Beach City Council voted on Tuesday, Sept. 18th, to approve a low bid of $380,000 to Roads Inc. of NWF.
With the original bid for coming in under budget at $380,000, three more streets were added for $22,768 in a change order approved by the City Council on Tuesday, Oct. 2nd.
Ken Grimes, Orange Beach City Administrator, said most roads come up for resurfacing every seven years or less depending on the wear and breakdown of the asphalt.
As of Friday morning, Garrett Lane was paved, and Cotton Bayou Drive was expected to be completed soon. Milling was underway on West Oak Ridge Drive.
Orange Beach Public Works crews were expected to installed dirt on the low shoulders on Garrett Lane and begin hydro-seeding the shoulders on Friday with a mix of winter rye and brown top millet, according to Public Works Director Tim Tucker.
Tucker said this week would focus on the West Oak Ridge area.
“There should only be minimal delays during the process,” Tucker said. “Any closures will only be for a very short period of time, example if the crews are in front of a driveway or street entrance. Thanks in advance for everyone's patience.”
