Scout builds ‘Free Little Libraries’ for Eagle project

BAY MINETTE, Alabama — Evan White built and donated six new “Free Little Libraries” to the Bay Minette Public Library as part of his Eagle Scout project.

Library Director Joanna Bailey said these new libraries will soon be painted by local artists and then placed at key locations in north Baldwin County.

The city already has four “Free Little Libraries” available: Kids Park, Douglasville, Bay Minette Elementary and Pine Grove Elementary.

While they may look like giant birdhouses, these mini libraries are stocked full of books that are free for the taking.

The concept is simple: take what you want and leave behind what you can. Bailey said she is excited to add six more libraries to help make reading materials more accessible to the public.

Evan is a member of Boy Scout Troop 78 in Bay Minette. He is a student at Baldwin County High School.
