Another year of shining hope on Baldwin County for The Lighthouse

How would you and your family enjoy a three-bedroom, three-night beach weekend getaway at the Turquoise Place? How would you like all of this, valued at $1,800, for a mere two bucks? Stranger things have happened, so don’t scoff at the idea just yet. If you are interested in this weekend retreat and enjoy helping those in your community, you might be interested in the 21st Annual Sunset Supper benefitting The Lighthouse, a United Way partner.

The Sunset Supper is The Lighthouse’s main annual fundraising event. The event boasts delicious dinner and drinks, live music, giveaways and more. For $2 per ticket, you can enter the Sunset Supper’s raffle and have a chance to win the beach getaway mentioned above. Also at the event will be a silent auction which includes spa treatments, vacation packages, jewelry, art, golf packages and much more.

Tickets for this event are $50 per person in advance or $55 at the door. For the cost of a night out on the town, you can come to The Lighthouse’s Sunset Supper for your dinner and entertainment. And the best part is all the proceeds for the event go back to The Lighthouse to help victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault in our community.

This year, the event will be catered by Georgia Roussos Catering and Cory Rezner will be the live entertainment for the evening. Drinks will be offered by Island Oasis. All of this takes place at the beautiful Bayfront Pavilion located at 6200 Bayfront Park Drive in Daphne to watch the sun set.

The Sunset Supper will take place on Monday, May 6 from 6 to 9 p.m. The raffle will take place at 8 p.m. If you would like to purchase tickets to this wonderful event, please call The Lighthouse at 251-947-3414. For business owners, sponsorships are available, so call today to become a sponsor and help those who have been sexually assaulted or domestically abused.

In 2018, The Lighthouse served 1,812 individuals with residential and non-residential services. The organization made face-to-face contact with over 880 individuals in the court system and provided information, referrals, safety planning and courtroom advocacy. The organization was able to provide nine adult and child survivors of domestic violence with temporary housing and case management services and provided 80 victims of sexual assault support and advocacy services. The Lighthouse also presented domestic violence and sexual assault prevention and education programs to 5,580 youth and adults and served 117 child victims and survivors of domestic violence.

The numbers above are wonderful, but they reflect only those who reached out for help and information. There are many more victims who are still behind closed doors and do not know where to look for intervention and support. There are just as many who have not even sought out services. Donations help those suffering find the help they need and deserve by providing more opportunities for victims. Donations can be mailed to PO Box 531 in Robertsdale. If you cannot afford to make any monetary donations, consider volunteering your time to help those in your community. If you can’t volunteer time or donate money, then you can always support The Lighthouse and other organizations by doing things like wearing the color teal during the month of April (which has been proclaimed this month by the Baldwin County Commission to be both Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Month and Sexual Assault Prevention and Awareness Month). Even in just showing your support and knowledge, you could be the hope someone else has been looking for.

The Lighthouse is based out of Robertsdale and serves those in need in our area. With all that those from The Lighthouse do, it is easy to see why they are a ‘beacon of hope’ to those in our community. If you would like more information, please contact The Lighthouse at 251-947-6008.
