FOLEY - The Baldwin Bike Fest, featuring Le Tour de Foley, will take place on Sat., Oct. 5, and will take riders on a tour through Foley, Robertsdale, Loxley, Summerdale, Elsanor, and Elberta, depending on what route you sign up for. There are four routes to choose from altogether: Novice, a seven-mile ride on flat, rural roads; Intermediate, a 25-mile ride on mostly flat to rolling rural roads; Metric, 57-miles on flat, rolling, and hilly rural roads; and finally the Century ride, a 97-mile trek for experienced riders, covering flat, rolling, and hilly rural roads.

On-site registration begins at 6 a.m. the day of the event, and pedaling begins at Heritage Park in Foley (at the intersection of Highway 59 and Highway 98) at 7 a.m. for the Century ride, 8 a.m. for all other rides. All riders must be back at Heritage Park starting site by 2 p.m., and must wear a helmet during the ride. Cyclists 15-years-old and under must be accompanied by an adult.

The entry fee for the event is $40 per person and includes: free event t-shirt, aid stations, ticket for door prizes, and refreshments during and after the ride. Pre-registering is highly recommended to guarantee a t-shirt in the right size is received.

The annual event is organized by the Foley Lions Club and the Foley Kiwanis Club, and provides the funds for both clubs to accomplish community projects throughout the year. The Foley Lion’s Club’s projects include: purchasing glasses for children and adults financially unable to purchase them, sponsoring children’s attendance at Camp Seale Harris, sponsoring high school students attending leadership camps, awarding scholarships to seniors, and providing funds for continued education. Foley Kiwanis Club uses the funds to execute numerous fundraising and charity events that benefit the local community and its youth. Its members are dedicated to community youth through Service Leadership Programs.
