SUMMERDALE - During July, Baldwin County Sewer Services donated $400 along with a variety of toys, food, and water to be used during the library’s children’s programs, including the Summer Reading Program.

“We at BCSS love to assist with community programs like the Summerdale Library’s Summer Reading Program!” said Jenny Williams, marketing and customer relations with BCSS. “We believe that public libraries are such vital resources to our community, and it’s even more beneficial to have programs like this available for children to help in keeping their minds working during the summer. We have been providing sewer service in the Town of Summerdale for many years now, and we enjoy opportunities like this to give back to its citizens. Part of our mission is to enhance the quality of life and the environment in Baldwin County, and community outreach, especially related to education, is a big part of our efforts to accomplish this.”

This year’s Summer Reading Program is called “Imagine Your Story,” and featured visits from Animal Tales and Alligator Alley as part of the entertainment. Other activities include reading, crafts, and storytelling.

“There’s a contest for children to read 15 books through the summer, and then they have to write a five-page story,” said Children’s Library Director Sandy Evans. “Kids can tell the stories in any way that they want, coloring, stickers, words; as long as they can express themselves.”

At the end of the contest, ten children will receive $15 gift cards. The money and donations from Baldwin County Sewer Services will go towards helping with all library children’s activities.

“It’s about giving the children the opportunity to come to a safe place like their community library, which is a good resource for books and meeting with people,” said Evans. “We’re keeping the children social distanced during the programs, and just allowing them to have some fun.”
