Bay Minette police arrest suspects in shooting death, stabbing

BAY MINETTE, Alabama — Bay Minette Police have arrested a Bay Minette man whom they say shot another man outside a Circle K gas station in the early-morning hours.

A Bay Minette woman has also been arrested in connection with a stabbing. Police say both of these incidents are related and occurred at the same time in the same location.

Alonzo Darrell Hale, 28, of Bay Minette was arrested and charged with murder after turning himself in to investigators at around 11:30 a.m. Saturday. He is currently in the Baldwin County Corrections Center with no bond.

Investigators say Hale shot and killed 19-year-old Larry Darnell Smith Jr. during an altercation at the Circle K gas station in Bay Minette. The shooting was reported at approximately 2:03 a.m. Saturday. Investigators believe they have recovered the weapon used in the shooting, according to the release issued Saturday by Police Chief Al Tolbert.

Investigators also arrested Tara Lavone Robinson of Bay Minette for first degree assault. Robinson was arrested at a residence in Bay Minette at approximately 11:15 a.m. Saturday. Robinson is also in jail without bond.

At approximately the same time early Saturday morning, police responded to the stabbing of Sharrikka Shawnta Smith and believe they recovered the weapon used in the stabbing at the home where Robinson was arrested. Sharrikka Smith was taken to USA Medical Center in Mobile where she was receiving treatment. Sharrikka and Larry Smith are brother and sister and are from the Bay Minette area, according to the release. This investigation is ongoing.
