BAY MINETTE, Alabama — One Bay Minette resident is facing animal cruelty charges, while two others are facing drug charges, one of whom is facing child endangerment charges, following a residential alarm call on Tuesday by the Bay Minette Police Department.

According to a release issued Wednesday by Bay Minette Police Chief Al Tolbert, officers responded Tuesday to Jacobee Court in Bay Minette, where they discovered a bulldog tethered to a tree in the backyard of the residence.

“The dog was tethered with approximately three foot of rope that had become embedded in the dog’s neck,” according to the release.

The dog was immediately removed from the tree and taken to a local veterinarian’s office. The dog is currently undergoing treatment and evaluation to determine adoptability, according to the release.

The homeowner, 58-year-old Ella Dee Adams, was arrested on misdemeanor animal cruelty charges and booked into the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Correction Facility. She was released later that day on a $1,500 bond.

The animal cruelty investigation led officers to obtain a residential narcotics search warrant at a home on South Hoyle Street. According to the release, officers found marijuana, digital scales and drug paraphernalia items at the home.

Officers arrested 38-year-old Wanda Defaye Adams on felony charges of unlawful possession of marijuana, first degree; unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

Through the investigation it was determined that two small children resided at the residence where the narcotics were found, according to the release. DHR also assisted with the investigation and safe placement of the children.

Adams was booked into the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Corrections Facility on Tuesday, released later that day on $3,000 bond.

Officers also arrested 21-year-old Dameryan Darnell Adams on first degree unlawful possession of marijuana charges and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. He was also released on $3,000 bond Tuesday.

Two dogs were also voluntarily surrendered by the homeowner Wanda Adams at this residence that did not have proper shelter, food and water, according to the release. One of these dogs was later euthanized because of the aggressive nature of the dog.
