ROBERTSDALE, Alabama — For many older Americans, healthcare, particularly Medicare, can be a confusing subject.

What do you have?

What do you need to have?

These are questions that can cause headaches for older Americans, particularly at this time of year, with the beginning of open enrollment for Medicare Oct. 15.

Joann F. Bordenave, owner of Bordenave Insurance Services in Daphne, an independent insurance carrier, talked to seniors at the George P. Thames Adult Activity Center in Robertsdale on Thursday, Oct. 3, hoping to cut through some of that confusion.

“Many people don’t know what they have or what they need to have,” Bordenave said.

Bordenave discussed the different parts of Medicare, A, B, C and D, along with supplements offered by Medicare and private supplemental insurance that can help with healthcare costs for older adults.

She also offered individualized advice for those who might still need more information.

“Everyone’s situation is different,” she said. “If you need more information, you can call and set up a meeting. I will meet with you here (at the Adult Activity Center), at your home or wherever you feel comfortable.”

If you would like more information, you can contact Bordenave at 251-753-5306, or email jbordenave@bellsouth.net.

The George P. Thames Adult Activity Center hosts daily, weekly and monthly events, as well as schedules outings for senior adults aged 50 and over, at the Adult Activity Center, 22651 E. Chicago St., Robertsdale, and at the PZK Center on Alabama 104.
